Dr. Duncan Higgins

Dr. Higgins received his dental degree from the University of Alberta in 1977. He completed his orthodontic residency at Indiana University in 1981 where he earned his masters degree and won the outstanding orthodontic graduate award. Dr. Higgins opened his orthodontic office in Delta in 1984. Dr. Higgins developed an indirect bonding technique which was published in Seminars in Orthodontics. He is the inventor and patent holder of the Xbow® (Crossbow®) Class II Corrector. The Xbow has resulted in faster treatment, treatment without headgear and minimized the need for extraction of permanent teeth. Studies at the University of Alberta on the Xbow have resulted in seven articles in peer reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and the Angle Orthodontist. The Xbow is used by orthodontic residents at the University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario and University of British Columbia. Dr. Higgins has lectured throughout Canada and the US, including the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto, on indirect bonding and Xbow. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Higgins is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. In his spare time, Dr. Higgins loves being with his family and enjoys rockin’ out as one of the lead singers with the UBC Dental Faculty Rock Band.
