Dr. Melanie Mattson is a dentist and certified specialist in orthodontics, practicing in the Hastings-Sunrise area of Vancouver. She was born and raised in the interior of British Columbia in the city of Trail. Her small town roots and sense of community motivated her to create a similar environment in her orthodontic practice, one where patients feel comfortable and welcome, and where they know that they are an important part of the team. Dr. Mattson personally attends to every patient at every visit, and always takes the time to answer questions from patients and parents alike. Her post secondary educational career began with undergraduate studies in microbiology at the University of Calgary, and continued at the University of Alberta, where Dr. Mattson obtained her degree in dentistry. Upon graduation, she entered a general practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, where she gained additional training in emergency dentistry, oral surgery, and special care dentistry. Having this valuable experience after dental school has made her a well-rounded practitioner with a thorough understanding of all facets of dentistry. Dr. Mattson was thrilled to have the opportunity to return to British Columbia when she enrolled at UBC for three years of specialty training in orthodontics, earning her Masters degree in craniofacial sciences. She is a dually certified specialist, both as a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. She is well versed in all areas of orthodontics, with a particular interest in interceptive orthodontic techniques for young children with functional bite issues. Dr. Mattson considers herself a life long learner and is dedicated to offering the highest quality care to her patients. She routinely participates in study clubs, courses and conferences to keep up to date with the latest advances in orthodontic treatment. Dr. Mattson loves being a part of the East Vancouver community and is looking forward to working with her patients to help them achieve beautiful healthy smiles that they are happy to show off to the world!
